Electric vehicle (EV) drivers will soon have access to a larger, more reliable and accessible charging experience in the ACT region thanks to a new partnership between ActewAGL and national EV charging network provider Evie Networks.
In an agreement that will see the region push ahead as the national leader in EV uptake, existing infrastructure within the capital and surrounding regions will see significant improvements to further support the area as a flagship region for early EV adoption, both privately and commercially.
The ACT’s existing EV network was established as part of a pilot project to support early adopters of EVs in the region. As ownership of EVs has increased, it has become evident that significant improvements are required to enhance the convenience and user experience for EV owners.
The project announced today includes increasing the number of safe and reliable public charging sites over the coming year. In addition, the transition to Evie Network’s national access platform will include the backing of a dedicated 24/7 call centre, field response capacity, and proactive identification and response to charger issues.
ActewAGL is also currently developing in-home and commercial charging solutions to be bundled with new electricity plans and working with fleet owners to make EV fleets a more accessible option.
Drivers travelling further afield will also benefit from Evie Networks’ established and growing national fast charging network which has been rolled out in every state and territory.
“The ACT has the highest uptake per capita of EVs in Australia and we’re keen to support further EV adoption. The electrification of transport is good for consumers and the environment, with transport being the biggest contributor to emissions in the ACT,” said ActewAGL CEO John Knox.
“In 2016 we pioneered public EV charging infrastructure in the ACT and through this experience we gained valuable insights into what it takes to run a successful network. Our partnership with Evie is about making sure our region has a safe, convenient and reliable EV charging network to support consumer choices,” said Mr Knox.
“We know ACT residents have been earlier adopters of EV technology and this additional investment in the local network is a reflection of that,” Evie Networks CEO Chris Mills said.
“With ActewAGL’s local reach and Evie’s EV charging capability, we will elevate the ACT region to become Australia’s electric transport capital,” said Mr Mills.
